Defence Against The Dark Arts Group

Status:Active, open to new members
When: Fortnightly on Monday mornings

Did you know that retirees are one of the most targeted groups by scammers? It makes sense - in many cases we are more trusting, less confident with the latest technology, more isolated, and have more saved money than other demographics, plus there may be other factors, such as bereavement, which make us particularly vulnerable.

Our group meets twice a month for discussions about various aspects of how hackers and scammers operate, how to spot scams that you've not come across before, and other advice about staying safe, both on and offline. You won't need to be a computer expert (many scammers are not either).

The emphasis is on common sense, mostly fairly non technical techniques, encouraging you to learn to think like a hacker yourself so that you can recognise the patterns they use to trick you. Come and ask questions, bounce ideas or concerns off other members, and support each other. We can't promise to make you impervious to all scams (no one is), but we can improve your defences, and have some fun along the way.
